President’s Circle: 2022 Wrap-Up
Happy New Year, y’all! As we look forward to the new year, let’s take a few moments to reflect on what the Civic League accomplished in 2022.
Thank you for your interest in being part of the Colonial Place/Riverview Civic League! We are an active civic league in Norfolk, Virginia covering the historic neighborhoods of Colonial Place and Riverview. Our officers and committee chairpersons are all volunteers who work hard to make sure our neighborhoods are safe, clean and friendly for all. We would love to have you join us – the more members we have, the stronger our voice, and the better we can represent the needs of our residents. Like any other organization, we’re always looking for more volunteers to help.
Who is eligible to join?
Our By-laws state: “Any resident or property owner 18 years or older of the Colonial Place or Riverview neighborhoods shall be a member upon payment of annual dues.” If you live in Colonial Place or Riverview, whether tenant or property owner, you are eligible for membership. If you don’t live in Colonial Place or Riverview, but you do own property there, you are eligible for membership as well.
What are the yearly dues?
Membership dues for the Colonial Place/Riverview Civic League are $10.00 per year for each person under 65 and $5.00 per year for each person 65 and over.
When and where are meetings held?
Meetings are held at 6:30 pm on the 2nd Monday of each month in the Kingdom Embassy Church, 645 Mayflower Road.
The meeting will also take place virtually. You can register for the next meeting by clicking HERE. You do not have to be a member of the Civic League to attend a meeting – all are welcome to attend either virtually or in person.
How do I join (or renew my membership)?
How long does my membership last?
Memberships begin on receipt of application and payment of dues and expire on December 31 each year. Once we have processed your membership, we’ll mail a membership card to you which will entitle you to a discount at participating area businesses. On or about December 1st of each year, we will send a reminder notice to you to renew your Civic League membership and you may follow the steps above to renew.
To join or renew online and pay dues by credit card, please use the form below to enter your information. Information may be entered for up to two people in the same household. Dues will be automatically calculated from your information. Once your information is complete, press the “Join and Pay Dues” button. A second window will then open to allow you to enter your credit card information. A receipt for your payment will automatically be sent to the email address associated with your card.

At the time, the mill employed about 200 people and was one of about two dozen such mills in an area home to extensive manufacturing and industrial facilities.
With the shorter days of winter months upon us, it is even more important to be mindful of streetlight outages in our neighborhoods.

In the sumer, mulch helps reduce weeds growing in your garden, but in the winter, mulch acts as insulation for the soil and plant roots (which are more sensitive to cold than stems).
It was a great day for a clean-up at Knitting Mill Creek Community Garden. Good riddance Nandina, Japanese Stilt grass, English Ivy, privet, and more!
