A Full Room and a Shared Vision: Highlights from Our February CPRV Civic League Meeting

It was wonderful to see the room continue to fill. Including online attendees, more than 40 neighbors joined us for the February General Members Meeting, many braving the cold to be there.

Just a few years ago, attendance hovered around four or five people. Seeing a full room, an engaged audience, and an active volunteer board was a powerful reminder of how far Colonial Place and Riverview have come. It was a true testament to the support of our neighbors and the many hands that helped get us here, and it left us looking toward 2026 with real optimism for the future of our neighborhoods.

The meeting featured several meaningful updates and conversations. Dee Hall Goodwin shared thoughtful insights on native plants, sustainable floriculture, and building more equitable and resilient local ecosystems. We also heard from Carter McRee of Tidewater Compost, who spoke about their local composting work, and Marcus Jordan from the Zoo, who discussed an upcoming application related to updating their ABC license. Mitch Swecker provided a Community Garden update, and Luisa Black from the Elizabeth River Project returned to share progress on the EcoDistrict Public Park and to encourage residents to complete the community survey so the park reflects what neighbors want to see.

Board updates rounded out the evening. Social Events highlighted upcoming activities, including the private tour of the Baron and Ellin Gordon Art Galleries on February 21 and plans for the spring yard sale. Media shared the new postcard mailed across CPRV and discussed recent social media efforts. Membership provided an update on current registrations and the value of joining. The Treasurer offered a brief overview of our financial standing. Our Riverview representative shared general city updates, and the Environmental team discussed connecting with new volunteers to move initiatives forward.

Overall, the evening reflected a growing, engaged, and collaborative community, and it was encouraging to see so many neighbors invested in the shared future of Colonial Place and Riverview.
