Primary Elections for Virginia Senate & House of Delegates - June 20, 2023

Republican Primary Elections will be held on June 20th in the following precincts:

Per Section 24.2-530 of Virginia Election Laws, all persons qualified to vote pursuant to Sections 24.2-400 through 242.403, may vote at the Primary.  No person shall vote for the candidates of more than one party. 

Virginians do not register by Party.  Each Party is having their own Primary Election on June 20th.  In those precincts where the Democratic and Republican Parties are both having Primary Elections on the same day, the voter must indicate which ballot style he/she would like to vote (Democratic or Republican) as voters may only cast a ballot in one Primary Election.

 

Primary Election Information

  • Early voting in person and absentee voting by mail for the June 20th Primary Elections will begin on Friday, May 5th.  
  • Early Voting will occur Monday through Friday from 9AM to 5PM in the Norfolk Office of Elections, 810 Union Street, Suite 100.  In addition to our regular hours, we will be open on Saturday, June 10th and June 17th from 9AM to 5PM for early voting.
  • The last day to vote early in person for the June 20th Primary Elections is Saturday, June 17th at 5 PM.
  • The last day to request an absentee ballot by mail for the June 20th Primary Elections is Friday, June 9th at 5 PM.
  • The deadline to register for the June 20th Primary Elections is Tuesday, May 30th (5 PM in person and 11:59 PM online).  We encourage voters to register online or in person before the deadline to avoid additional required paperwork processing and to save time.
  • Beginning May 31st, same-day voter registration will be available for Norfolk citizens to register in person at the Norfolk Office of Elections and cast a Provisional ballot.
  • On Election Day, June 20th, same-day voter registration with Provisional Ballot voting will be available for all Norfolk citizens at their respective polling places.
  • Provisional ballots are legal ballots.  The Norfolk Electoral Board will review all Provisional ballots cast to determine eligibility to count.

 

Important Information

  • Voters may request an absentee ballot for a single election or be placed on the Permanent Absentee list.  Click here to apply online for an absentee ballot.
  • Voters may opt out of future absentee ballots by submitting the attached notice to the Registrar’s Office.
  • Same-day registration is available in person at polling places on Election Day.  Same Day registrants may be eligible to cast a Provisional Ballot.
  • All polling places will offer drop boxes for absentee ballots to be returned on Election Day.  You may return your voted ballot to your polling place.
  • Please ensure your absentee ballot has your voter name, current Norfolk residence address as registered, voter signature, and witness signature on Envelope B.

Redistricting

  • Postcards were sent from the Virginia Department of Elections to all registered voters.  This is to advise of changes due to redistricting from the 2020 Census.
  • The entire City of Norfolk is now in Congressional District 3.
  • Although Virginia Senate and House Districts have changed, your current representative remains.  Elections for Virginia Senate and House of Delegates will occur in November 2023 with winners to be sworn in January 2024.

General Members Meeting | April 8, 2024

We are joined by: 

Courtney Doyle, Norfolk City Councilwoman for Ward 2 gave updates on infrastructure projects in our neighborhood, a safety report on improving rates across our area, implementation of new speed cameras in school zones and more. The presentation was followed by a brief Q&A session. 

Jeremy McGee spoke about his candidacy for Norfolk City Council Ward 6. Mr. McGee spoke about his background, move to Norfolk, local business ownership, civic involvement in Ghent Civic League, Norfolk ARB and now Norfolk Planning. The presentation was followed by a brief Q&A session.

Gosnold Ave – Gravity Sewer Repair

The City of Norfolk’s Department of Utilities has hired East West Construction to repair and rehabilitate the sewer line in your neighborhood along a section of Gosnold Ave. The project area is shown on the map on the back [see below images].

Planned Start of Construction: March 2024
Anticipated End of Construction: June 2024
Access: Access to businesses and residences will be maintained throughout construction with detours around the work zone. The City and our contractor will do our best to minimize the unavoidable disruptions associated with construction.

General Members Meeting | March 11, 2024

Tommy Leeman, candidate for Norfolk City Mayor, spoke about his background and platform followed by a brief Q&A session including his thoughts on redevelopment of MacArthur Center, Military Circle Mall and the forthcoming Casino project.
