EVENT RECAP: MJ’s Tavern Meet-Up
A big thanks to all our neighbors who came to the CPRV neighborhood dinner at MJ’s Tavern last month.
The city is holding a public forum at the Lambert’s Point Clubhouse at 4301 Powhatan Ave. on Wednesday, July 19th from 6pm-8pm (parking is available) to discuss what should be done with this property. There are several interested parties who are expected to attend to voice their opinion.
Some concerned citizens in Norfolk have formed a committee to explore the possibility of a new park at Lambert’s Point where the old golf course existed. A large portion of the property has been sold to HRSD for a SWIFT water treatment plant but 20 acres remain that have not yet been spoken for. This committee is proposing that this acreage become a park along the Elizabeth River with cool breezes and water views. There are preexisting walkways that wind around the property that could be used for walkers, joggers and bike riders. They envision a wonderful venue for concerts, picnics, etc. This committee reached out to our civic league to share their vision and a petition that they have started for like-minded individuals: https://chng.it/X5WXYP5x. Ramin Fatehi, the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney, delivered a comprehensive update on national crime trends and the macro factors influencing them. He also highlighted our local deviations from these national trends, providing valuable insights into the successes of the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office in 2023 and sharing upcoming initiatives for 2024. Porchella is a free, neighborhood jam that will take place in Colonial Place this year, Dec. 30 from 6-9pm. Neighbors offer up their porches to musicians for 30 min concerts by musicians of all types that offer up their talent! It’s basically reverse caroling. 🙂 Bring cash to tip your musicians as they are donating their time and skills! We will also have Venmo QR codes on the porches to make it easier to tip!
