CPRV is stronger because neighbors show up, lend a hand, and care for one another. Thank you to everyone who joined us in person and online for our September 14 meeting at Kingdom Embassy Ministries, and to the volunteers who give their time and energy to make our neighborhoods and the City of Norfolk better and more connected places to live.

We welcomed Brian Zawacki, owner of Zeke’s, who introduced the newly opened fifth location at 4515 Colley Avenue, shared details about the space, and answered community questions. We’re excited to welcome another gathering place to the neighborhood!

Our Community Resource Officers, Officer Benton and Officer Briggs, shared the neighborhood safety report and an important reminder: lock your car doors. Most reported thefts from vehicles involved unlocked cars, making this simple habit a practical way to help prevent theft.

We heard updates from our Social Events and Environmental committees, including the rescheduling of the Mayflower Buffer Cleanup from September 11 to Saturday, September 26. Please watch our social media and website for the event time and additional details.

The Media Committee encouraged everyone to stay connected through CPRV’s Instagram, Facebook group, website, and newsletter. This year’s CPRV calendar will also be available soon, featuring community events and photos that celebrate our neighborhoods.

The President shared several updates from around Norfolk:

• Voluntary water conservation: Due to ongoing drought conditions, the City urges residents to reduce all nonessential water use.

• Free job-readiness workshops: Norfolk Workforce Development and Virginia Cooperative Extension are offering workshops on Tuesday, September 22, at Mary D. Pretlow Anchor Branch, and Tuesday, September 29, at Richard A. Tucker Memorial Branch.

• Virginia Zoo’s 125th anniversary: Founded in 1901 and spanning 53 acres, the Zoo is celebrating this milestone with special anniversary programming and pricing. Check out their offerings and help celebrate a longtime Norfolk destination!

Our Vice President previewed next month’s meeting, featuring Norfolk City School Board Ward 2 candidates Veleka Gatling, Michael Spencer, and Shawn D. Wilkerson Jr., ahead of the November 3, 2026 general election. Join us to hear their priorities for Norfolk’s public schools, followed by a moderated Q&A.
