Inspired by the international phenom, Dîner en Blanc, the Social Events committee is excited to announce a very CPRV take on the festive worldwide dining event.
According to Wikipedia, Dîner en Blanc (French for “Dinner in White”) is a worldwide event spanning six continents in which people dress in white and share a meal in a temporary dining setup occurring in a public space. Diners are required to provide their own food, tables, chairs, and tablecloths. Only a select number of participants who have previously signed up are made privy to the location the day of the dinner and generally converge in an iconic urban location.
The Dîner en Blanc concept began in Paris in 1988 when François Pasquier invited a group of friends to an elegant outdoor dinner at the Bois de Boulogne, asking them to dress in white so they could find each other. The event’s presence has grown to over 85 cities, with almost 17,000 gathering for the 30th-anniversary event in Paris.
Here’s the CPRV spin: we’re calling it Dinner on the Green. (No fussy French, just plain English—and attendees can wear whatever they’d like.) The dinner will be international in focus and potluck-style. The Civic League and the Social Events Committee will provide tables, drinks, and set-up. So, save the date!
